Herculaneum and Archeological museum of Naples – From Sorrento
The tour starts from Herculaneum, the ancient city that suffered the same tragic fate of neighboring Pompeii: the eruption of mount Vesuvio in 79 A.D. covered it in mud, but luckily the volcanic material managed to naturally preserve the city. Nearly 2,000 years after the disaster, visitors can still see what the city was like at that time and how Romans lived. Wooden furniture, architectural elements and frescoes are still all intact and truly a sight to behold. Then you will reach Naples city centre to admire the extraordinary collection of the National Archeological Museum. Most of the findings on display have been gathered over years of excavations in Pompeii and Herculaneum and include everyday objects, mosaics and sculptures. Ultimately, you will feast on some great pizza in a local traditional pizzeria in the heart of Naples historic centre.
